DOG TRAINER

I grew up loving dogs and became interested in becoming a dog trainer when I took my Doberman-mix Ruby to agility classes as a young teen. Studying Animal Sciences at WSU helped me realize that animal behavior is a true passion. While in school, I trained, apprenticed, then worked as a Dog Trainer for several years through a retail pet store. I also raised several puppies to be Guide Dogs for the Blind during this time. Several years ago I moved back to Seattle and worked as a Trainer for Downtown Dog Lounge for several years before starting my own business. During that time, I met hundreds of dogs and worked with a variety of behaviors. I love learning new and varied dog training methods, and focus on positive reinforcement training methods. My training focuses on improving communication between the dog and the owner, as well as teaching the dog to be calm, friendly, and consistently listen to commands. I promote using the Humane Hierarchy of training- using positive reinforcement first, and whenever possible, to solve the problem, and only using other methods if positive reinforcement is not sufficient to resolve the behavior. I believe training should be fun and rewarding for both dogs and people.
